Electronic Talents #2: Proxy

France might take most of the plaudits when it comes to effortlessly dirty electro but a cold front away from the French label powerhouses, there?s a Muscovite who?s been making the kind of ground-shaking monsters that would have made the Iron Curtain crumble.

Taken under Tiga?s wing and signed to the Canadian?s own Turbo Recordings, Proxy increasingly found fans among the DJ glitterati for his thumping, unremitting remixes and relentless blocks of grinding, gnashing techno. The breakthrough, bullocking bass scuzz of ?Raven? took an uncompromising residency on A-list setlists and dance-floors in what seemed a lifetime (two years) ago and Evgeny Pozharnov has been on the wider radar ever since.

Inspired by the ?crushing sound? and ?sustained aggression? of The Prodigy?s Moscow Red Square show in 1997, Evgeny invests a similar brutality into Proxy?s ?post 9/11 rave vibes cloaked in Muscovite angst; a line drawn in smoking rubble along the border dividing East and West.?

Cryptic and theatrical perhaps, but if you?ve ever endured the grinding gears of ?Decoy? or the Mortal Kombat rave up of ?8000?, the self-dramatics walk the walk but the music buries the talk?of which there?s been a lot.

Last year?s ?Who Are You/8000? EP piqued anticipation ahead of this year?s proposed full LP release but with his debut album interminably delayed, that short, elevated hop to DJ royalty is tantalisingly close. ?My music tells you what to do, but never why. Your ear may be afraid, but your body completes its labour.? Proxy?s ready.

Essential 3: ?Raven?, ?8000?, ?Dance In Dark?

Proxy recently supplied the 100th episode of ClashMusic's DJ Mix podcast, hear the results HERE.
